Cycle Log

What we see when we reach the peak (motivation factor)

Today, Eddy took Ezzat into Frim for his 2nd ride, a variety in comparison to RRI.

Dr Khairul went thrashing up the jungle from the Orang Asli village at Bukit Lagong in an attempt to find a route out at Commonwealth village. The trek went from 9.00 am and ended at 6.00 pm but they did not make it as they failed to find the route.

The good doctor, came out very much healthier as he was bleeded by at least 5 leeches during the attempt.

Brother Adnan (not Joe Adnan, but an avid and experienced mountain biker all the same) who is supposed to lead us for Batu Dam tomorrow advised to postpone the ride as the track is waterlogged due to heavy rain and not passable.

Instead tomorrow, Din, Fariq and me will attempt the Kota Damansara Community forest for the first time. The route, according to what I know has never been really explored before. Dr Khairul may join us if he is not too tired. Insyaallah we will make it.Taif may come along.

Also, I have also received several request to change the base for the site from blogspot as it not easily accessible. Hey, I'm not supposed to be the webmaster. I'm not that good at IT, and this was the easiest but I'll see what can be done

Hadith of the day

Hadith for the day

313. Abu Hurairah (radhiallahu’anhu) reported: The Prophet Sallallahu’alihiwasallam said, “Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning. When any one of you sneezes and says ‘ Alhamdullillah’ ( Praise be to Allah), it becomes obligatory upon every Muslim who hears him to respond with ‘Yarhamuk Allah’ ( may Allah have mercy on you). Yawning is from the devil. When one of you feels like yawning, he should restrain it as much as possible, for the devil laughs when one of you yawns. [ Related by Al Bukahari]

Family RRI ride - Ezzat's initiation

Ezzat's initiation ride, 2nd day of Chinese New Year. My only comment was, the mosquitoes were definitely in festive mood. They did not leave us alone for one moment, despite the 2 types of repelants we used. Pictures speak louder than words.

The Happy Gathering before we were hit by the mosquitoes. From the left Eddy, Ezzat, Fariq, Fahmi and Afiqah.

Starting out under the tree canopy.

Exiting the canopy and bye bye mosquitoes for the moment anyway.

Riding in the morning sun.

The usual 1st stop, at the bridge.

Ezzat posing for the camera

Family posing for the deceptive photo.

The guardians

Fahmi scratching mosquito bites

At the peak, Fahmi still scratching

At the peak

Father and Son

Fahmi on his mountain bike wannabe, trailing last, lucky no dogs today.

Afiqah in front trailing all the others

Afiqah taking a breather at the end.

Putrajaya Challenge Park Chinese New Year Ride

We did the Putrajaya Challenge Park today. Invitation from BBB but we got there first. Apparently the BBB team got sidetracked and arrived very much later.

For the beginner, instructions to the location. Straight up the Chinese Cemetery road from Dengkil or through Taman Selatan Precint 20 from the Dengkil Road. It is on the border of Precint 5 and 20. I think it is in Precint 5 anyway.

Track description, many trails, pick your choice, not for the faint hearted though (me included - I had a bad case of vertigo), fast downhills with unexpected turns, unexpected jumps and of course a DH jump track. Wide berms so it is actually quite safe but nevertheless, I fell twice as did Din, Fariq had one, the only one who got away Scotfree was Eddy (luck of the Scottish).

We got introduced to the track by our guide Kamil who we met there and kindly lead the way for us. Jazakallah Brother Kamil.

Photos galore, I got quite good videos of the jumps on the phone camera but in the PC it looks terrible. I won't post it until I can get it refined.

Chengkau Cycling Club Hadith of the day

Hadith for the day

169. Abu Hurairah (radhiallahu’anhu) reported: By Allah other than Whom there is none worthy of worship, I used to press my stomach against the earth owing to my hunger; I would tie a stone over it. One day, I was sitting on the way they usually take, when the Prophet Sallallahu’alihiwasallam passed by me. When he saw me, he smiled at me and knew my condition and my feelings. He called me and I replied;” At your service O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “Follow me.” So I followed him.

Having arrived at home, he sought permission and entered. He allowed me in and I, too, entered. He found milk in a bowl and asked, “Where is this from?” He was told that it was a gift for him from so-and-so. He called me and I responded: “At your service O Messenger of Allah.” He said,” Go to the people of As-Suffah and usher them in.”

He (Abu Hurairah (radhiallahu’anhu)) explained: The people of As-Suffah were guests of Islam; they had no family, no property and no relations. When the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu’alihiwasallam used to receive something in charity, he would send it to them without taking anything from it. When he received a present, he would send it for them and share it with them.

On this occasion, I disliked to give them anything. I said to myself; “This meager quantity of milk will not be enough for all the people of As-Suffah! I am more deserving of it than anyone else. By drinking it I may attain some strength. When they come, he will order me to give it to them. I do not expect there will be anything left for me from this milk.”

As there was no alternative but to obey Allah and His Messenger Sallallahu’alihiwasallam. I went and called them. They came and sought permission which was granted. They took their seats. The Prophet Sallallahu’alihiwasallam called me and I responded, “At your service O Messenger of Allah.” He then said, “Take the milk and give it to them.” I took the bowl and gave it to one man who drank his fill and returned it to me, I gave it to the next and he did the same. I went on doing this till the bowl reached the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu’alihiwasallam.

By that time, all had taken their fill. He, Sallallahu’alihiwasallam, took the bowl, put it on his hand, looked at me, smiled and said, “Abu Hirr.” I said, “At your service O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “Now you and I are left.” I said, “That is true, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “Sit down and drink.” I drank, but he went on saying, “Drink some more.” I said, “By Him Who has sent you with the Truth, I have no room for it.” He said, “Then, give it to me.” So I gave him the bowl. He praised Allah, uttered the Name of Allah, and drank the remainder. [Related by Al Bukhari]

Used Bicycles for Charity

This is a new project, so far Eddy has agreed, I haven't spoken to Din yet, but I do not foresee any difficulty.

We are collecting used bicycles of all sizes to be donated to poor children in Perlis. This was following the meeting I had with Raja Saadi of Yayasan Budimas who visited the poor in Perlis last week.

In the discussion, he mentioned that the children of the poor in Perlis would be more than happy to receive used bicycles, as their main mode of transport to school was walking.

What we intend to do is :-

Collect unwanted used bicycles.
Repair and restore them to riding condition.
Put them on a lorry and
Distribute them to the poor in Perlis.

No Target Numbers yet,
No Target dates yet.

This will be updated soon.

No numbers set yet, but we will definitely create a ride there.

Hadith for the day

27. Abu Yahya Suhaib bin Sinan (radhiallahu’anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu’alihiwasallam said,” How wonderful is the case of the believer; there is good for him in everything and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him and he endures it patiently and that is better for him.” [related by Muslim]

Chengkau Cycling Club Hadith of the day

Hadith for the day,

The Times of Solat (Prayer)

129. Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr Radhiallahhu’anhu: The Prophet Sallahu’alihiwasallam said,
“The time of the Zuhr (noon) prayer[1] is when the sun passes the meridian and a man’s shadow is of the same length as his height. It lasts until the time of ‘Asr (afternoon) prayer. The time of ‘Asr is as long as the sun has not become yellow (during it’s setting). The time of Maghrib (sunset) prayer [2] is as long as the twilight [3] has not disappeared. The time of ‘Isha’ (night) prayer is up to midnight. And the time of the Fajr (morning) prayer is from the appearance of dawn as long as the sun has not risen;(but when the sun rises, abstain from prayer; for it rises between the two horns of Satan)” [Reported by Muslim]

Narrated by Buraida [4] in another version of the above Hadith regarding ‘Asr (afternoon) prayer: “When the sun is white [5] and clear” [Reported by Muslim] And Abu Musa [6] Radhiallahhu’anhu narrated regarding the time of ‘Asr prayer: When the sun is high [6]
[Reported by Muslim in another narration of the former hadith.

[1] It means that the time for Zuhr prayer is up to the same size shadow [from the start of the sun’s decline up to the time when a man’s height and the size of his shadow are equal in length] ; and after that the time for ‘Asr prayer starts. Some religious scholars consider the time of Zuhr prayer up to double size shadow, but this is not proven by any authentic Hadith

[2] This Hadith tells that Maghrib prayer also has two timings, early and late. In the Hadith of Jibreel only one time is mentioned for Maghrib prayer on both days, but this was an affair of the early period of Islam. Later on, in al-Madinah, the time for Maghrib prayer was extended.

[3] Shafaq – twilight is a redness in the western horizon at evening after sunset, as it’s description is given in the narration of Ad-Daraqutni.

[4] He is Abu ‘Abdullah Buraida bin Al-Husaib Al-Aslami. He embraced Islam together with eighty of his colleagues when the Prophet Sallallahualaihiwasallam passed him on his way to migration to Al-Madinah. He then came to the Prophet s.a.w. after the battle of Uhud and then took part in the other battles. He also attended al-Hudhaibiya and Bai’at-ur-Ridwan. He settled at Basra then went with an expedition to Khurasan settling at Marw where he died and was buried in 62H or 63H.

[5] It means that ‘Asr prayer should be offered in its early time. After the same size shadow, there is time for four raka’at only which is common between Zuhr and ‘Asr prayers. After that, the time for ‘Asr prayers begins.

[6] Abdullah bin Qais Al- Ash’ari was one of the eminent Sahaba. He migrated to Abyssinia (Ethopia) and then came to the Prophet s.a.w. at Khaibar. He was assigned to administer Zabid and Aden and then became ‘Umar’s governor for Kufa and Basra. He was instrumental in the conquest of Tastar and several other towns. He probably died in 42H, or another year.
